DISNEY WORLD FLORIDA: advice, tips and do's and don'ts
Central Florida has been acclaimed as the vacation capitol of the world and it is a
well deserved title.
Florida has sun, sea and some of the most beautiful sandy beaches that you will
find anywhere but then of course the cherry on the top is of course the incredible
theme parks.
Another big plus for Florida is the wonderful variety of food: something for every
palate. From succulent steaks at Ruth's Chris, to great Italian Trattorias and the, not
so well publicised but first class restaurants such as Le Coq Au Vin in Orlando and
Victoria and Albert's at Disney World's Grand Floridian resort, it is possible to dine
like a king or queen every night of the week.
So you can, with a healthy covering of waterproof SPF protection, soak up your
vitamin D as you gently bronze in the warm Floridian sun, enjoy the fabulous new
rides at the theme parks, indulge in dining at a superb restaurant and then retire to
your luxury accommodation.
In Florida you do not need to compromise as it has everything.
A couple of pointers:
Purchase theme park tickets from bona fide registered sellers. Do not risk
purchasing tickets from other outlets as, if they are not legitimate, you take the risk
of being turned away at the park gates. There are unfortunately fraudulent tickets
out there.
When you visit the parks where comfortable shoes. You will be surprised at how
much walking there is involved and there is nothing worse than aching feet.
Take something waterproof to protect your clothes from the sudden heavy
downpours. The plastic capes with hoods which can be purchased in the parks or
locally from Walmart etc. are great as they are lightweight, can be packed very flat
and will fit into quite a small area in your purse or fanny pack. These are especially
useful on the water rides.
Get up early. There are several reasons why visiting the parks as soon as they open.
Of course they are not so busy and you will be able to get on a couple of the rides
relatively quickly. You will be able to enjoy several hours in the park before the high
temperatures of the mid day heat. You will be able to get your bearings.
Consider visiting the parks on quieter days such as Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Wear the best protection sunscreen SPF especially slather children and babies. A
hat or cap is also a good idea.
When you park your vehicle make sure that you write down the location it is easy at
the end of an exhausting day to confuse Goofy and Pluto.
Most parks have a pet centre where you can book in your beloved pet and they will
be cared for in the cool until you leave the park.
When you enter the park take a few minutes to check out that day's entertainment
and activity schedule. Plan your tour so that you do not miss a great show that may
only be on once a day.
Consider hiring one of the park's child carriages for small children. They are not very
expensive and can be a great help for quick naps.
If you want to eat in one of the park's restaurant rather than just the snack bars or
cafés consider booking your desired eating time at you chosen eatery at the start of
your day. They get booked up very quickly. If you want to eat in Cinderella's Castle
or similar then you will need to pre-book. It is wise to reserve seats at Cinderella's
Castle a year in advance.
Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. There are always several water
fountains or areas to purchase bottled water. Keep an eye on children make sure
that they too drink sufficient water and that they do not get too hot.
Take a break during the day. Make sure that you have your ticket (and if required
for re-entry your hand stamped or check that it is allowable with your ticket type).
Return to your hotel or villa and have a siesta or refreshing dip in the pool. You will
avoid the peak time crowds and be able to return refreshed.
If the park has a grand finale or a particular parade find a good viewing position
early or you may not actually see anything.
When it is time to leave try to be patient. It will take time. Please just accept it with a
happy heart. There will be queues to leave so take care, make sure that you have all
of your family together and navigate your departure with decorum. Make sure that
you take time to check that you are in the right traffic lane for your destination and
drive carefully.
I hope that these couple of suggestions help to improve the quality of your theme
park visit.
Have a great vacation.
