A great oven/range, gas is super if you love to cook. Double ovens are a
boon when you are cooking for a large family. Self clean ovens are a must
and those with the cleaning element in the bottom are best where most of
the spills are found. Radiant and halogen smooth surface burners are
easier to clean. Check out levels within the oven five are great and make
sure that they are of a quality thick and firm metal and will not bend under
the weight of a heavy turkey or goose.

Microwaves can be free standing on the counter top models or built-in
usually over the oven. They can be programmable and sensor cook and
are a great addition to the busy housewife and family especially the
microwave/convention versions. Avoid microwaves with knobs rather than
the touch screen displays as, over time, the ratchets tend to need repair.
Check out the interior size and that it is large enough for your family
casseroles etc. To clean your microwave add a sliced lemon to a cup of
water and microwave for 30 seconds.

A
fridge which has plenty of room is a necessity for today's family and a
filtered water and ice dispenser in the exterior freezer door works well.
Personally I love the French Door design. Some of the cheaper fridges cut
back on quality plastic and the bins and shelves tend to break easily.
Titanium doors sound great but tend to dent easily.

Make sure location is not in direct sunlight, next to the oven, range,
microwave or dishwasher.
Check that the power saver switch is on the energy saving setting.

A
dishwasher which has two different washing compartments is a
wonderful idea for large families, those who need to keep meat and food
preparation utensils and china separate or just a couple that can use one
section regularly but the expanded second compartment available for
entertaining. A two pump system is more efficient and uses less water than
the older models. Also consider the noise factor as several versions are
very loud. Built in food grinders avoid the necessity to remove every bit of
food. A good rack layout is important: will your large roasting pan or dish
fit? And are the racks plastic or metal that's coated with plastic. Usually over
time you can expect pieces of the plastic to get knocked off and the metal
will then rust and look unsightly. You can buy a kit to connect up your
dishwasher but generally it is advisable to obtain the services of a
professional plumber as it is not only getting the connection fitting correctly
without and leaks but it is also important to level the appliance correctly
(you do not want your racks falling back into the machine at every
opportunity whenever you load and unload it).
