Give Tony Little 28 days to transform your body. His book - One-on-One with Tony Little guides you step by step.
I decided that 2008 would see a slimmer healthier me! My rose
colored spectacles had fallen off on Christmas Day when I looked at
the digital photos and was horrified to see a stranger enjoying
Christmas with my family. It was a considerable shock to realise that
the stranger with the Hitchcock profile was in fact me. I was the large,
rotund figure and, at some point in my life, I'd managed to morph into
a Hitchcock double.

Although I was upset I didn't rush into a diet on January 1st as I
wanted to take my time to view the different options that were
available other than liposuction and other drastic measures which
did not appeal to me on many levels.

I am in a category in which many women of my age, the baby boomer
years, find themselves.... heavier than they'd like to be and finding it
far more difficult to lose weight than ten or twenty years ago.

When I was young I was like a stick insect and my parents continually
fed me a diet of raw eggs and cod liver oil and malt in an effort to put
some fat on my scrawny frame. If only that were me now. These days
I only have to look at a doughnut and it immediately finds a location
on my thighs, signs a long term lease and settles down to indefinite
residence. But this year I want to shake up the horrid cellulite and
give the doughnuts an eviction notice.

It isn't just that I feel large and unattractive these days but being
over weight physically manifests itself in a lot of huffing and puffing
and difficulty performing simple exercises.  As I approach a flight of
stairs my heart starts racing at just the thought of the upcoming
effort. Not  a good sign.

I don't even know when the weight started to settle. One minute I was
a nice, comfortable size 11, not slim slim, but a dignified size and
weight and then over a winter a couple of years ago it came like a
thief in the night and robbed me of my hitherto 'feel good'
complacency.

When spring arrived and I realised that my light weight clothes were
too tight I convinced myself that they had all shrunk in the new
washing powder. I avoided looking at the size labels when shopping,
threw out the weighing scales, as they were old and obviously
needed adjusting, and averted my gaze whenever full length mirrors
or shop windows suddenly presented themselves in my line of
vision....  And there I stayed for the next few years in a limbo of self
denial.

But now I am determined to overhaul my mind set and my body! In
2008 I am going to look and feel better. I am going to buy a new
swimsuit and new clothes for summer. I am not going to set
unrealistic goals but I really want to lose at least one stone in weight.
That should help with my health and, the more weight that I lose, the
more active I should become.

I am fed up looking at clothes in, the 'Women's" section, the
designated area for women of a 'certain size'. I don't want to only buy
clothes which cover up my thighs and tops of my arms, I don't want
to seriously consider buying elastic waist bands to accommodate my
ever increasing middle for the rest of my life and I don't want to get
out of breath tying up my trainers.  I want to wear slim fitting jeans
again and to be able to walk in a pair of high heals without worrying
that I could topple and fall like an awkward turtle onto my back, not
able to stand with dignity, but having to roll onto my side and then
my knees to be able to get perpendicular once again. Being
overweight effects your life in so many ways. It is not fun and I'm
determined that 2008 is the year when the turtle turns!

Check back with me next month I'll let you know the diet that I've
decided on and if it's working.

Best wishes, from an unfit 54 year old with great hope, expectation
and a newly found resolution.
Let's lose weight in 2008 and we'll look sublime in 2009!!
