A classic 1963 Ferrari Berlinetta Lusso which was owned by the legendary
Steve McQueen sold at Christie's auction house in Monterey California on
Thursday 16th August.

The evening auction at the Monterey Jet Center drew a  crowd of eight
hundred people and the bidding was lively and spirited. The lovingly restored
car, whose pre-estimate sale price was $1.2 million, actually sold to an
anonymous phone bidder for a cool $2.31 million.

Steve McQueen, who starred in several great films such as the fast paced
Bullitt, The Great Escape and the captivating Thomas Crown Affair would
have been proud that the car's provenance greatly increased it's intrinsic
value. However it is ironic that his love of racing cars may have actually
contributed to his death as, apart from wearing asbestos lined safety suits,
he would drench a cloth in asbestos liquid and carry it over his mouth during
a car race.

The King of Cool, who was once voted the sexiest man alive, was nominated
for an Academy Award for The Sand Pebbles and won several Golden
Globes one for his memorable and superb performance as Henri Charriere in
Papillon.

Steve McQueen died at the age of 50 in Mexico of mesothelioma, lung
cancer, on November 8th 1980.

He is quoted as saying:

When I believe in something, I fight like hell for it.

I think the new owner of his Ferrari fought for his car and I hope that he gets
as much enjoyment from owning it as Steve McQueen obviously did.

Tell us about your Christmas
We will publish the best three
submissions.

Send us your favorite photo and
explain why you love it.

We would like to hear from those
who have something to say.

We will have three categories:
The Good:
It can be something that you have
purchased that was a great buy, a
sterling service, a super restaurant or
an act of kindness. You get the idea. It
has to be
a feel good experience. .

and then of course
The Bad:
What has really ticked you off this
holiday season? What caused a
blight on your day? Was it annoying or
rude service by a phone or cable
company? Whatever gave you cause
to
feel upset or angry let us know.

The Ugly:
This category encapsulates any
obnoxious behaviour or something
which offends the senses or is a
blemish on the landscape. It must
justify that it is
truly ugly, not an
unfortunate act of nature.
