From the moment we are old enough to totter down
the gentle sandy slope and dip our toes in the foam
of the sea we are hooked on the beach.

You never quite forget the feeling of the warm sand
as it pushes up through your toes and the off shore
breeze as it whips your hair up and out of whatever
confines had been placed on it. If you close your
eyes you can still hear the gentle sounds of the
lapping waves and smell the fresh healthy fragrance
of the salty ozone as they perpetuate the memory of
the idyll that is a beach vacation.

When I visit the beach I prefer to sit back and relax,
take a deep breath and enjoy the view. I especially
like to see a new family arrive. It's wonderful to watch
the reaction of little children as their faces reflect a
look of complete awe. They generally stand
mesmerised and, as their parents are busy unloading
towels and bags, small eyes grow wide with
amazement as they behold for the first time the
vastness, strength and beauty that is an ocean.

If you feel the urge to leave the sun soaked shore of
course you can indulge in a myriad of water sports
and beach games. There is no need to be a beach
potato even if it is just a leisurely swim or a brisk walk
along the shore before a stroll to that seafront
restaurant and indulging in a light lunch of a fresh,
locally caught, fish.

From the beautiful silver sand in Jamaica to the rocky
coves of Maine and the undulating sand hills of La
Rochelle the beach appeals to our senses and lulls
us into a relaxation of spirit rarely found in other
vacation destinations.

So if you would benefit by taking a step back in time
to the simpler days of your childhood to experience a
de-stressing of your soul then consider making your
way to the water, stretching out on the warmth of that
sandy beach and allowing mother nature to work her
own special magic.
